Bing says Maria Sharapova is year's

Bing says Maria Sharapova is year's 'most-searched' athlete

Maria Sharapova had a good but not spectacular year in 2011, failing to win a major, but getting to the Wimbledon final and the French Open semifinals.

But her popularity was perhaps greater than ever.

Bing.com says the 6-foot-2 Russian has been the search engine's most-searched-for athlete this year, taking that title away from Tiger Woods, who ranked second. And two other women on the tennis circuit, Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki, also made Bing.com's top five for driving clicks.

Roger Federer celebrates beating David Ferrer
Roger Federer

He was leading Novak Djokovic two sets to love in their U.S. Open semifinal when the long, inevitable arm of gravity pulled Roger Federer back to earth. He had just turned 30, and when Djokovic beat him on the way to his third major title of the year, Federer looked, well, old.

It was the second straight Grand Slam event in which Federer had lost his nerve; at Wimbledon, he blew an eerily similar 2-0 lead against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga......

Rafael nadal giving the impression of a man

RAFA NADAL NEEDS TO REDISCOVER HIS LOVE FOR TENNIS
RAFAEL NADAL has packed his bags and gone home to Spain. He left behind question marks about his future.

Knocked out of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the O² Arena, Nadal departed giving the impression of a man who has suddenly become tired of tennis.

“I have lost a little passion for the game,” he said. “I have been a bit more tired than usual.”

For Nadal to admit the flames within him, normally as fierce as a forest fire, have become mere glowing embers is testament to how his troubled year has finally got to him.

He lost his beloved Wimbledon title and his place as world No1. Then, Novak Djokovic completed a hat-trick by defeating him in the US Open final.

There are rumours of a rift with uncle Toni, the man who has been his faithful second in his corner for all of his career. And there is speculation of turmoil in his personal life, within the close-knit family.
